Hey again everyone!

I’m looking to purchase the below 4 pieces of equipment to begin with.
- wet suit (full + hoodie?)
- fins
- mask and snorkel
- boots

I currently have the following which I use for snorkelling, would they be sufficient?
Mirage Platinum Silicone Mask, Snorkel & Fins Set - Blue (X-Large)

Could any one provide any insight into the 4 pieces of equipment I want to purchase regarding brands, thickness, styles, things to consider and look for etc.

I’ll be diving in Australia, Victoria, Port Philip Bay.

Thanks in advanced and hope you all have a great New Year

-Wetsuit: I would consider a semi-dry wetsuit for your location, fit is critical
-Fins: I prefer "jet-style" fins for positioning but others may have a different preference
-Mask: good fit is the most important factor; low volume to be easier to equalize and to remove water
-Snorkel: small, foldable, to store in a pocket, no "bells and whistles"
-Boots: no relevant input

P.S.: The mask and snorkel you have will probably do it to start (if the mask fits you). Closed heel fins probably not due to water temperature.

Snorkelling fins are generally not stiff enough for Scuba.

Water temperature will guide what kind of wetsuit you'll need (i.e. thickness).

I have some advice I give my students on the order of things to buy here.

Best to go somewhere locally where you can try on stuff.

You might want to correct your typos in that link, and add a regulator to the list.

Hey there TeamAndrol
Great to hear you’re getting into scuba diving!
I’m originally from Victoria and have dived a lot in Port Phillip bay and Mornington peninsula. In summer I used to get by with my surfing steamer wetsuit with the addition of hood & booties. In winter I’d dive with something thicker, 1/4 inch and gloves.
I live in the tropics now (Solomons) but whenever I go back to the peninsula to visit family I buy gear from the Scuba Doctor in Rye. They have an online store but nothing quite beats walking into the shop and talking with the staff.
There is some terrific diving around Victoria. Your gonna love it!

Enjoy!

scuba doctor can be expensive and Borrett an arse
Some things are dear and some things not. Like the iDry package I linked above, Adreno can't come near it.
And I use to think the same thing about Lloyd but once you get to know him he's alright.
"Slip into something comfortable and affordable"? Do you work in the Brisbane store?
Lol

That makes sense. Never thought about the fins that way.

Seems like 7mm will be the way to go in my region. What are the chances of overheating when wearing a 7mm wet suit though? I never knew that was a thing.

Thanks for the link. I’ll definitely have a read of it. Cheers mate
