I have a trip to BC planned in late June and would like to shoot a bit of video with my GoPro while I'm there using ambient light, no video lights. Which is the best filter to use with the water conditions there? Will the red filter I use in tropical waters do, or is a magenta filter better?

The water is very green, so you want to use a white-balance filter that is meant to correct for green, not blue. These should be the magenta filters you mentioned. The problem I had diving BC in June was that the bloom made it very dark even at relatively shallow depths. A light source might be more important for good video than the filter...
