I am ready to give up on Suunto for dive compasses. The plastic capsule has a tendency to develop hairline cracks causing the oil to leak out and air bubbles to form inside the capsule.

The capsule of most depth gauges and SPGs (non-glass ones) are nearly bullet proof. Why are the SK7 and SK8 compass capsules so damned fragile?

Neat idea. If that hiking compass has adjustable declination one could mark and pre-drill the plasitc board to have access to the screw in the bezel so adjustments could be made depending on the part of the world one is in.
