WILD EARTH EXPEDITIONS - Fiji and Tonga 2010 Trip Report
It was truly an incredible adventure that the Wild Earth Expedition group experienced across the islands of Fiji & Tonga with many highlights that pop instantly and warmly to mind.
Throughout our latest adventure across the diverse land and seascapes of these magnificent Pacific islands we encountered the rich cultural diversity of two unique island nations, which embraced us in a relaxed and welcoming and confidence that comes with living in paradise.
With the heady 'tones' of coconut and wild tropical flowers embedded in our senses and souls we set out to encounter the colors, tastes and warmth of the Fijian and Tongan communities. We were enveloped by the vibrant and voluminous songs of the people of Rabi that transported us back into traditional times, costume, ritual and welcome to place. We were overwhelmed by the Fijian coral reefs that dripped with color and vibrated with fish life and thrilled by the tactile encounters with the sharks at Beqa. Our adrenalin was pumping at the sight of 6 shark species including (12) Bull, Lemon, Tawny nurse, Silver tip, Grey reef and White tip sharks. Our snorkelers were serenaded and wrapped in the songs of passing humpback whales, while the entire group found a special inner-peace when we all witnessed and felt a 'special connection' with the humpback whale mother and calf (so new its little dorsal wouldn't stay upright!).
Wild Earth adventurers were treated to private dinners, luxurious massages, and an exotic picnic on a private island surrounded by golden sands, lapping seas and cooling ocean breezes. Birders were not disappointed spotting brilliantly colored fruit doves, tropical parrots and a variety of sea birds.

Guest comments and reports from our 2010 expedition:

"Hats off to Thomas and Natalia Baechtold for organizing an incredible Wild Earth expedition to Fiji Tonga. The locations were magnificent, the diving awe inspiring. We will never forget our first shark dive. What a thrill to see huge Bull Sharks a few feet from you surrounded by swarms of smaller fish!
The choices of the resorts and dive sites was superb. We were always in the best beachfront rooms in the best resorts.  And the logistics spoke to the attention to detail and good planning which we know is part of Thomas and Natalia's nature. But what sets Wild Earth apart from other expedition companies is the customized attention to individual needs, the small unexpected treats, complimentary massages, and special candlelit dinners which were sprung on a delighted group of guests. We recommend Wild Earth Expeditions to anyone who is looking for an adventure experience with two of the most talented and experienced people in the business"

"We recently returned from an incredible journey with Thomas and Natalia Baechtold of Wild Earth Expeditions.  This was like no other expedition trip we have ever been on. The intimacy and attention to detail that Thomas and Natalia were able to lavish on our group was amazing as they continued to delight and astound us with thoughtful, personal touches.  All of the lodging and activities exceeded expectations, with ocean front rooms at beautiful resorts and private dive boats taking us to the most exciting dive sites in Fiji and Tonga.  We dove with sharks, swam with whales, participated in local cultural performances and sailed into the sunset - that is, when we were not being pampered with wonderful private dinners, spa treatments and other surprises. We would encourage anyone to "get off the cattle car" and take advantage of the exciting small group travel that is being offered by Thomas and Natalia and Wild Earth Expeditions."
