Well, I've only dove in salt water once, but I will tell you we made sure to drink lots of water etc to hydrate ourselves before our dives. I've been told that you sweat ALOT while your diving and burning alot of calories (I mean, your constantly swimming).

When we did our last trip we were doing beach dives with suprbugman, and I tell you, my tank carrying arm is what took the most beating. So you may want to consider that. You could have easily slightly pulled a muscle while picking up your BC to put it on as well...
 
Ok, based on the additional info, I think you were just bruised - not bent, as the last two have suggested. Good to be cautious, but don't talk youself into an injury.
