I prefer to post my pictures on an image hosting website like Flickr, and then link to the offsite picture page.

I just tried to do that, and for some weird reason the post ended up with inline image attachments instead of image links, losing the link to the picture page. Is this deliberate? To me, this seems more like a bug than a feature.

This is deliberate to prevent people from hotlinking non SSL links on an SSL site.

When people hotlink images from regular http: sites it would cause "mixed content" errors on the page and make the https for that page invalid.

I looked at your post and I see full sized images. So it appears as though this functionality is working as I expect it to.

OK, got it. I don't particularly like it, though :) Guess I'll have to find some way to hack it so I can show my pics on a proper picture site, then :D

Joking aside, I realize that it's for safety purposes. It just messes up the way I've been doing things before. Old dogs and all that...

Not full size. They're sized according to the preview picture that Flickr gives me, not according to their full size on Flickr.

The size limitation is another element for attachments to keep them to a reasonable size for page optimization purposes. All of this functionality has been in place for at least a month now, and your objection is the first. I'd recommend using the SB media gallery to share full sized images if that is your intention.

Howard, you might want to check the licensing on the images before copying them. Copying them may be a violation of the image license, depending on what the user selected. In the case of flickr, that would apply to images where "All Rights Reserved" is selected. If someone links an image from a third party's flickr page then other licensing than "all rights reserved" might become a problem.

I post links to my images on flickr because I don't want sites like facebook.com to own my images. I don't care so much if you guys do, although I still find it distasteful.

Then don't post them on ScubaBoard.

YOU are responsible for your post content... NOT ScubaBoard

Like I said, I'm cool with it. That doesn't mean everyone is, I was just trying to point out a potential problem.

I don't see the problem.

This case is closed as far as site support is concerned. If you have additional comments on the topic, you can post a feedback thread.

Thanks.
