Because he knows, what he's doing, lots of training and experience.
Unbelievable record, anyway.
And not to knock Nitzsch's record in no limits, but 100m unassisted is a very special achievement, no question.

If you think, that's insane, ckeck out the record for static apnea, haven't looked it up, but I believe, currently at 17min 19sec...

The Static record is just over 11 minutes, I think. However, I have heard that Herbert broke the 20 minute mark with a static on O2. It does not count for any records, but it is still amazing.
