This question piques the interest of the sailor in me. It's been a while since I've thought about this and my copy of Chapman's Piloting is stowed in the attic, but there exists a line that can be tied to the fluke end of an anchor to pull it up when it's fouled and won't break loose when pulled by the rode. The name of this line escapes me now, but this thread begs the question, why wasn't this anchor equipped with this line, thus totally eliminating the need for another dive?

That being asked, were I the Captain of the boat I'd mark my position by GPS, cut the rode, come back and retrieve the anchor another day when my PN2 level was .79.

Hey - I sort of know about those lines - my anchor has a hole on the fluke end for just such a line. I did some research - it's called a "Trip Line".

Might be a real smart idea. Thanks
