We are newish divers looking to expand our Carribean diving. We are near to reaching our hotel points goal (my husband travels for work) so we are looking to travel to one of the following destinations to dive, enjoy outdoor (golf, hiking?), food, nightlife. We have never been to any of these so if you have or know enough, can you give me your recommended ranking?

Aruba
Barbados
Curacao
St. Kitts

We already have trips to Jamaica and Cozumel this year so we would like to go around this time (March/April) of 2014.

Thanks in advance!

Which points "awards" company do you use?

The Marriott on Curacao is OK.
The Hilton on Curacao is a dump. I have Hilton points and choose not to stay there for free.

Based on your total list - probably Aruba.

We are with Marriott.

And coincidentally, we are leaning towards Aruba first. :)

Can't comment on the hotel in Barbados (stayed in villas) but went there twice and got certified on the 2nd trip. The Marriott is in Bridgetown (the capital) but the tourist areas are to the north and east (food, beaches and shopping). There is a lot to do and see on a first visit, we had a blast so we went back. Thankfully we had diving to do as the b tourist sites we didn't do the first time weren't worth the time/effort. There are beautiful beaches and great restaurants. I've left the diving to the end as well... it's been fished out. The fish pot we saw with the dead and dying fish explains this and really put us off ever going back.

by total - I meant total activities you have an interest in - not just the places on your list.

I actually thought the Curacao Marriott (Emerald Beach) was one of the nicer ones. Nice beach, pool area, Caribbean Sea Sports on-site for diving, small casino, beachfront restaurant etc. But their dive isn't the best, the reef is out past the bay so it's a little farther swim out.

About a 10min. drive to downtown from there. Most of the restaurants/nightlife are downtown or slightly farther east along the beach. There was something loud going on at the Marriott one night. Pirate Bay is a decent beach bar walking distance away also - they'll have music later in the week. It's a tables in the sand kind of place.

Since Piscadera Bay is sort of north Willemstad, the better western shore dives are 15-45mins. drive away. There's also a Renaissance downtown but there's no diving there - they shuttle divers from there to CSS at the Marriott Emerald Beach.

Not much golf on Curacao - Blue Bay or Santa Barbara are about all. SB looked nice when we drove by. I play so I notice. The most golf is going to be either St. Kitts or Barbados. Barbados has several courses, St. Kitt's does/will soon. There's a new project by Ian Woosnam going in there - Kittitian Hill. Supposed to be 3-4 courses eventually. Although I think the best course there currently is the Four Seasons - on Nevis - not St. Kitt's.

My friend was certified on Barbados. Her sister lives there so she goes occasionally. She dives regularly in the Caribbean. She also mentioned it was fished-out - in fact when we proposed a group trip there, her suggestion was to go elsewhere. YMMV.
