Yesterday, I got a Zeagle Flathead ZX/VI and an Enoy additional 2nd stage. I plan on taking the DIR Fundamentals in Sept. I called Zeagle and they can get me an 84"/7' hose.

I had been considering getting an Apeks XTX50 or XTX100 (w/XTX40). I don't dive out of the tropics. It seams after reading the threads here the prefered regulators are the Apeks or the Scubapro. Seams Scubapro MK25 w/ S600 or G250 (w/R190or R550) is the ideal choice for the tropic for the DIR method of diving.

Before it's too late would you guys recommend I return the Zeagle and get the one of the other regulators mentioned above?

And would I be the course outcast with a Zeagle?

Absolutely nothing wrong with using the Zeagle, if it were me I would keep it, great reg. Just so you know, you can get the hoses anywhere, they don't have to be from Zeagle. I use a Zeagle with the envoy second and it works great.

Wow, Lots of post in short time.

So, what I guess you guys are saying is it's OK to stick with the Zeagle.:coffee:

It's really not a big deal to change right now, later on yes.

I did the old flip the quarter to decide between the Apeks and Zeagle in the first place and have nothing against Scubapro.

I only intend on using single tanks. Is hose routing not as desirable on the Zeagle as the others? Also, the hose next to the 2nd stage on the ZX it's beefier, is that an issue in changing out the hoses?
:shakehead

The book by Dan Mackay (Dress for Success) that shows the regulator setups actually uses a zeagle reg for the single tank setup. Zeagles are fine.

SparticleBrane, I took my DIRF class with Dive Rite regs on my doubles. JJ actually used my setup as a "good example" of hose routing. You'll be fine with it. Can't speak for the Salvo reg though!

Agree that "Zeagles are fine."

Otoh, the single tank setup shown in Dan MacKay's book (Fig. 33, 34, 35 and 37, pages 35-36) is actually an Apeks FST (serial 111 0015) first stage and TX100 second stage on 7' hose. The backup is a Scubapro G250HP second stage (Fig. 36 and 38, page 36).

DOH! You're right! Zeagle has a similar shape. My mistake. But the Zeagle's are still fine! :)
