With the reports of warmer water and decent vis inshore, we decided early in the week to hit a spot we call the "lunchbox". As the weather deteriorated on saturday we had our doughts, but went anyway. The weather report was right on with 3-4' rollers and the occasional 5 footer got us pretty beat up in the aquasport. Dive was to 55fsw bottom temp was 56 and the vis a suprising 15-20. The surge however reminded me of fenwick shoals in the late fall. Needless to say with a surge like that the fish move to deeper water to feed, it was a ghost town. The highlight of the day was the trip out. As we slogged deliberately toward our destination we saw a scuttled skiff drifting upside down, we thought. When we got to within about 50 yards it rolled to one side showed us a barnacle covered flipper and was gone. A juvenile whale sighting this close in is allways a treat.
