Shearwater Perdix AI Dive Computer

RICHMOND, British Columbia – November 14, 2016 – Shearwater Research Inc. is proud to introduce the newest addition to the Shearwater family: The Perdix AI. Using its large, easy-to-read screen, the Perdix AI clearly displays the tank pressure as well as gas time remaining (GTR) and is capable of connecting to either one or two transmitters giving the diver the option to monitor two tanks and allowing for sidemount diving. Air integration is optional for all modes, from OC Rec to CC/BO, of the Perdix AI and can be assigned to the customizable slots on the computer or accessed through the information screens.

ai-download-page1Shearwater will continue to manufacture the original Perdix as well as the Petrel2 and NERD line and will sell the Perdix AI alongside the other Shearwater products. The Perdix AI offers all of the same great features divers have come to love about their Shearwaters such as the two button interface, user replaceable AA battery, and free firmware releases with Bluetooth technology. Like its predecessors, the Perdix AI comes configured for OC Rec, OC Tec, Gauge Mode, and CC/BO for air, nitrox, or trimix diving.

Shearwater Desktop will be updated shortly to include specific features for the Perdix AI including tank pressure which will display in either PSI or BAR, SAC throughout your dive, as well as GTR information.

Full technical specifications for the Perdix AI are available on Shearwater’s official website. A tutorial video highlighting the new air integration features and best practices of use will be released shortly on their YouTube page. The Perdix AI is available for purchase starting November 16th through the Shearwater dealer network which is accessible here.

The Perdix AI will be showcased at DEMA 2016 from November 16-19th at the Shearwater booth, #7148. Visit DEMA’s official site for a map of the show floor.

Shearwater is committed to providing demanding divers with powerful, simple, and reliable dive computers and this mission continues with the Perdix AI.

  7. I got to take a wonderful video of this at their booth. Wonderful except for the ear splitting audio feedback, so it's completely useless. I'm going back today with my Edge 7 and will try that route. This version will track up to two gasses and it displays them simultaneously. That's right: the bottom line shows Tm1 and Tm2 simultaneously, No having to switch gasses when you swap from tank to tank. They only use the one sender that has been used by Oceanic for ages. They feel that's been perfected, so they concentrated on perfecting their end in terms of reliability. I really, really like it. No plans to add this to the Petrel II at this point... at least not any plans they're willing to share! :D
-----
2017 ScubaBoard Surge: Cayman Brac Teachin' it Neutral Style! NetDoc's Snobbish Amounts of Trim Class Pete "NetDoc " Murray

Oh and the Perdix uses AA batteries over the rechargeable one in the Eon I have 250 dives on my Eon, using multiple transmitters. Diving to 40m and incurring deco, or repetitive diving on vacation, or just weekend fun diving - I've not found it limiting in any way. The battery hasn't degraded in the 2 years of ownership I'm happy to give my honest opinion of the Eon if you want to PM me rather than e rail this thread. Good as the Perdix is, IMHO it isn't worth the £300 ($370) extra. But again that's only my opinion
-----
Notice the transmitter being used by Shearwater is also the same transmitter used by Aqualung's new line. Similarly Mares/UWATEC/ScubaPro use the same transmitter (made by them, not AUP et al). 27. I've pretty much given up hope. Still no word from them. I'll be purchasing another computer soon. I'll probably get another Perdix I may sell my Predator and get a Perdix. It's too bad about Liquivision, I used to have an X-1, but got rid of it after they abandoned their X-link. I later bought the Xen because it was a cool bottom timer. Now the screen is an issue. my wife was wanting a computer, and the Kaon was interesting to her because of the small size. She recently started using my Perdix, and really likes it. The Kaon is a little smaller, and was still on the short list for the next computer. Since the Xen screen is fading (and NO response from Liquivision after 3 emaiks), I'm not really feeling any good MOJO about spending money on a product that has the same screen. It's not like I don't spend money on computers......I'll probably stick with all shearwater going forward. 30. Maybe they did, but I don't see how that's relevant. Companies develop products all the time without making any announcements about it until the actual release date. They didn't "let" anyone buy anything. at the time you made your purchase, you were buying from their current lineup. I don't see how you would expect Shearwater would advise you not to buy a Perdix, and tell you to wait instead for a product they may have been developing, but havent publicly announced. Would you go to the dive shop you bought it from locally and tell them that they were wrong for "letting" you buy a Perdix from them and not advising you to wait? There's a good chance that you got a good deal on Okinawa when you bought your Perdix, so listing it for sale won't result in too big of a loss for you. Assuming you purchased it from a shop in Oki. I'll be in the market for another Perdix soon. ;) My point is that I don't think any business is going to turn away a customer and tell them not to buy something now in the interest of waiting for some eventual release. Just look at the seabear threads to see how long people end up waiting for an eventual release.
-----
When do YOU start to accept a lower standard of performance? 34. Hi Lorenzoid, As a general policy, we never pre-announce. There are several reasons for this.

We don't think it's a good idea to publish our plans to our competitors.
Often we work on things that are hard and sometimes we end up killing the project before it is completed.
We don't want to announce a replacement product until we are sure that it will work, and what the real ship date is likely to be.
In general, we don't like the current trend in dive computers of vaporware announcements to try to attack competitors that really have products.
When Lynn said that we had no plans to do AI, she was being completely honest. In fact, she was so sure we wouldn't do AI that she didn't even bother to give our standard reply that we don't pre-announce. We had looked at it and decided we weren't going to do AI. In this case we changed our minds last spring. Are we working on something new now? Our answer is that we have 10 full-time engineers. We are always working on new stuff to delight our customers. As I stated in a previous message in this thread; perhaps at the time they didn't have plans for it. Its no different with any other electronic product line, new versions are constantly being introduced, at some point a consumer chooses to buy in. When you do that you have to realize that at some point after your purchase, they company is going to release something new. How many iPhone versions are there now? Or andriod versions? How about personal computers? new product releases occur ever six to eight months. Petrel 1 buyers found out the same thing when the Petrel 2 was released after they bought in. It happens with any consumer electronic product line. It has nothing to do with people being s fanboi. Its just the reality of buying any electronic item. Im surprised so many people seem so shocked that a company released a new electronic trinket right after they bought their current electronic trinket. And people are angry that they didnt notify the market on a diving forum that they were coming out with a new model..... come on man! 44. I am personally 100% satisfied with my new Perdix AI that I just bought only a few months after purchasing my first Perdix. My new Shearwater Perdix AI has so far been exactly everything I was looking for when I replaced my VT3. My old Shearwater Perdix with only 6 dives recorded was worth selling at almost no loss so that I could get the new AI.
-----
Florida Scuba Diver - Facebook | Flickr - Florida Scuba Diver (Group) | Flickr - Blue Heron Bridge (Group)

    Nice clean setup, like it.
-----
52.
I would like Shearwater to add an option for storing the tank size and not just the tank WP. That will allow capturing my RMV in addition to the SAC. SAC changes with different tanks...
All you need to do is download to Subsurface and in the software you can set tank size. It will then provide air consumption in litres per minute (not sure about imperial).
-----
Michael Sydney, Australia There is no such thing as a bad dive, just some that are better than others
  53. My wife and I are new divers and yet our Perdix AI computers feel like the best purchase that we have made. They are a joy to use. They will allow us to grow in the sport without the need to upgrade our computer and we will never have to transition to a new format. The user interface is intuitive and well thought out. It is simple to use and has all the functionality that we will need as we progress.
-----
"This thread reminds me of a joke I heard once. Ask a new diver what causes DCS and he'll say he doesn't know. Ask an instructor on Scubaboard and he'll go on for days about micro bubbles, M-values, tissue stress, etc. Ask a research scientist who has studied DCS at Duke for many years and he'll say he doesn't know."-Maxbottomtime
