I'm not sure how much I would go to Coz if not for the diving, probably not often as it's a bit of a trek and a tad more expensive than for some when coming from CA. But my family and I have always enjoyed topside as well for the beautiful skies and landscapes, not to mention the warm engaging culture.

If Cozumel is "hell on earth", then all I have to say is... "see you all in Hell!". Our bags are packing and we will be arriving in hell on Thursday.

We like Coz, not just for the diving, but for the food in some of the places. In fact, I would go to Coz in a heartbeat over any place in Hawaii. The diving is better, and the local food is very good.

Well - we'll be right behind you!! (Or maybe in front, depending on airline schedules!!)

And to each there own ... some people don't think it's a vacation unless they're at a 5 star resort being waited on hand & foot ... we love Coz for the diving, the people, the food, and how inexpensively we can spend a vacation there.

If you listen to some people, we're all going to hell anyway. Now I guess some
of us just happen to know when! We'll be arriving in hell in about 36 hours and
45 mintes! :thumb:

I spoke with a couple today who just returned from their wedding at an AI near Playa del Carmen. They went over to Coz for a day and hated it. It was too hot, they were molested by peddlers, and it didn't get better until they went to Hard Rock and got a good American burger and some real beer.

I told her that I really liked it there, and that if you got off the beaten track and found a restaurant like 'Especias,' or went over to the east side they might find the charm.

I said, "next time you go there, you should try scuba diving. That is what Coz is truly famous for."
She said that her husband doesn't like water. She likes laying on the beach and swimming up to the poolside bar, but the ocean creeps her out.

She asked me if I spoke Spanish, to which I said yes. She said thats what made her mad, nobody spoke English very well, and she just couldn't communicate what she wanted. She said that even the Mexican food was strange, and that she couldn't wait to get back to the US of A to have some real Mexican food.

Moral? If someone thinks Coz is "hell on earth," consider the source and move on...

i spent a night in a swank hotel in fiji once.

in the morning on the way out i saw some tourists in the pool and getting ready to sit at the pool bar... when we got back 12hrs later they were still by the pool, sitting by the pool bar

i said at the time i dont get why someone would make an effort to travel but not actually leave the hotel/resort! you can sit around the pool in the backyard all day drinking if thats all you want to do

oh well - each their own.. i still dont get it though

I think I would have had to tel them, if all you want is to feel like
your at home in the good ol USA, then don't go to another country.

Some people?!?!?!?!? :shakehead:

I agree with Ted-the comment probably was about temperature. The days that I can't walk two blocks downtown without breaking into a sweat and burning my forehead give credence to their description. We just like the place too much to let the hellish side matter.
