On Sunday, the current started picking up again. Seas were pretty calm in the morning, but the afternoon got kinda stormy, so we only ran one trip. It was a good one though! Bella was lobstering and limited out, I think on the first dive. We went down south to Clubhouse, and again, it was pretty derned dark down there. I did manage to find a fairly cooperative hawksbill turtle though. Vis was maybe 35-40' mostly due to the darkness, and the current was moderate and to the north. The water was about 72º I guess.
The turtle.
The second one was Castle Ledge, up on the north end of the reef. Very early on in the dive, I discovered a slipper lobster. They are, in my opinion, the tastiest of all lobsters, including the American or "Maine" lobster. I used to work on a lobster boat in New England, so it may be that I just got burnt out on eating those guys, just like I get kinda burnt on Florida lobsters, but the slippers I really enjoy. Anyway I found this tasty fella out in the open, which I thought was odd, snapped a couple of pics and then grabbed him. No sooner do I grab the guy, then another one comes racing out of a hole at me. I thought that there may have been some sort of territorial dispute going on between two males, and so I ended it for them fair and square and grabbed the other one too. Unfortunately, I did not have a catch bag, and so I had to carry one in each had, which pre-empted any further photography, as well as the timely equalization of my ears. I ended up with a tasty dinner, but a stuffy ear too. (It's better now)
I forgot to mention that three cobia swam past me from behind, startling me they were so close and big. I'm just saying.
The second slipper lobster.
