Money has no morals. I am sure nothing will be done.

Seeing as you're in Hong Kong too...

Are you aware of the Hong Kong-based petition that got sharks fin soup off the menu at Hong Kong's own Disneyland in 2005?

Or how about The Hong Kong University banning sharks fin soup from it's restaurants after petitions and protests from their own students and alumni, also in 2005?

Or how about the petition that will go to Hu Jintao (PRC President) later this year, urging him to remove sharks fin soup from the menu of the next People's Congress?

A bit parochial for you?

How about Malaysia's Natural Resources and Environment Ministry removing shark's fin soup from the menus at official functions in response to local criticism?

Or how about the various petitions and activist parties that put amendments to The Shark Conservation Act of 2009 before the US Congress just last month? Amendments which are designed exclusively to combat finning.

There's plenty more, and some will succeed.

Google them yourself. I've wasted enough time on you.

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”

So true. Nice post Hammerhead.

The last word on the subject belongs to Zeeman, addressing Garrobo, he asked...

Garrobo has been on my ignore list for some time now.

MartinNorway78 has seen his own post for what it was... an emotional over-reaction. I doubt there is a single country that could throw stones at another given what they themselves have done. My own country has done many similar things both to the environment and to other human beings. We all live in glass houses so be careful where you throw the stones. Many of the Chinese that I know are as against shark fin soup as I am.

I think we should try selling them Seal fin soup... We would make a killing! Litterally! :D :rofl3:

Just kidding!!!!!:cool2: It's friday, and I'm depressed because I can't see any trips to the PIs in any foreseable, not too distant future... :(

As for the ones that I know, my wife, her family, our friends, and the friends that I still have from school here almost all sit in that category.

A good friend of mine (known each other since we were 5) now runs a small-ish chain of hotels. I introduced him to diving in 2003. Guess what's not on the menu in any of his hotel restaurants...any takers?

Tamales?...uhhh....Bobwhite quail breasts?....Iguana?....uhhhh...chicken gizzard ceviche?...c'mon HH, can you give us a hint?

Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar. Tuscany fried bats.

Or it could be none of the above.

Hi Hammerhead
Took me a long time to reply because I find this forum very difficult to follow. It is not instinctive to a newbie like me. Anyway, I think you misunderstood my post. I was not talking about petitions or any other form of community action. I was commenting on the corruption of Philippines police. From my experience, I doubt there will be much will to prosecute those responsible for what happened to this shark, or any of the thousands of others that this happens to. I have been involved in community actions, petitions, protest marches etc for 35 years and we have had some great wins and disappointing losses. I was involved in the HK issues you mentioned above and others as well. Obviously I could have been less glib in my post, but you could also have asked me to explain myself before being quite so condescending. Better not to alienate "like - minded people" eh.

Um, spotted owl? Bald eagle?
