Hmm, what a fun scenario to imagine, swimming along with 3 GWS in the vicinity. Could be worse, it could be a tiger, bull and GW grouping.

I'll be doing my first dive tomorrow since "November 2009!" I'll be going in my boat with a buddy to either Anacapa or Santa Cruz. I must say....I truly hope I do not see one--or more importantly, one doesn't see me. Being mistaken as a food item and spit out after being bitten in half isn't my idea of having an awesome time. Those things are just too damn dangerous to pretend it would be wonderful to have an encounter with one of them. At least that is my feelings, no comment as to anyone else. I try to avoid them and do not dive where I believe there to be a high probability of encoutering one.

Heh. Yeah. So, what do you want on YOUR tombstone?

Oops.

Somehow I'm not feel'in it.

Richard.

Given the amount of bottom time he has, if Dr. Bill hasn't been eaten yet, the chances of any of us even seeing on is pretty slim-

Besides- we're underwater and all the pics of them are on the surface, gettin some sun:

 Diving Hookah with no one on the boat... the sharks .. this guy isn't a risk taker now is he? :fear:

Maybe so....but I don't want to average out the odds. That said, I just got back from diving Anacapa and Santa Cruz today. No big sharks, just a few bat rays, an angle shark and the biggest halibut I have ever seen--at Santa Cruz. I got some pictures. Didn't take many because the viz wasn't really good enough to go too crazy with the camera. Had fun though and the water was flat.

What dive sites on Santa Cruz? Any pic's worth sharing? Average visibility in feet? I've got my 4th annual camping/kayaking/scuba trip coming up at Scorpion Anchorage on SC island at the end of this month and have seen very little reports from the northern islands this season.

Well we're leaving tomorrow to take our sailboat to Santa Cruz Is for the week, hitting several anchorages around the island. We've got our gear and tanks so we'll do some diving. I'll post a reporton conditions when we get back...provided the GWS's don't have us for dinner!

I dove Cathedral at East Anacapa and Scorpion at Santa Cruz--both reserves. Anacapa was the clearest (15ft to 20ft but green) and Santa Cruz had approx 12 to 15ft feet viz--really green. Sea temperature at depth was 61 degrees at both dive locations. I suspect that the greenness is caused by the upwelling that has been stupid lately due to the months of nonstop wind. My guess is that it will go away shortly since the winds seem to be calming down. Your dive may come with much better viz. I still have to figure out how to post picks. I'm not a very good photographer, but I'll try to figure it out. The monster halibut I saw was at Santa Cruz at Scorpion in the mud at about 35ft and approx 200 yards off shore.
