I...but you have less than 50 dives? You don't have enough logged dives to meet PADI's very low standard of becoming a DM candidate....
FYI - 40 is the prerequisite for the program.
New Moon is this Saturday, great for the meteor shower.Regarding the currents that these unqualified dm and instr candidates have to dive in, it is coming up on new moon.
Spring Tides
When the moon is full or new, the gravitational pull of the moon and sun are combined. At these times, the high tides are very high and the low tides are very low. This is known as a spring high tide. Spring tides are especially strong tides (they do not have anything to do with the season Spring). They occur when the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon are in a line. The gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun both contribute to the tides. Spring tides occur during the full moon and the new moon.
New moons even more so since the moon and sun are lined up on the same side of Earth.
FYI - 40 is the prerequisite for the program.
PADI has been 40 for a long time. To ENTER the program -- still need only 60 to finish divemaster and 100 to take the IE. A bit on the low side still, but I've seen divers who claim 500+ dives I wouldn't have thought had finished their open water yet. It really depends on the person and mindset.
I absolutley disagree that ANY diver with only 40 - 100 dives is ready to be a DM or Instructor - they simply do not have the experience or enough hours under water to truly be able to recognize, assess and handle many situations! Of course this is my opinion - others are welcome to disagree, but I won't be convinced otherwise.
