Oceanic Ve0 2.0 locks you out - Dive air and you need to wait 24 hours before resetting to Nitrox. So it is easier to dive on a Nitrox setting with 21% if you think you are diving Nitrox on any dive during the day.
I think that's backwards. If you dive nitrox it locks you out of air mode.... which is fine

I use the nitrox settings on my Oceanic computers and am able to change the mix between dives, I have never been locked out.

Yes, but can you change between air and EAN settings between dives? I can not. I can set my Oceanic computer to EAN 21%, the same O2% as air, and change O2% between dives, but not switch between air and nitrox modes.

I see your point but, why would you? Just set it for nitrox and adjust as required.

I assume the Oceanic works the same as my Aeris. When I first launch my computer it comes up showing "AIR" Once you set the O2 and dive nitrox you don't see "AIR" as an option any more (just O2 %) because the computer is telling you that it's tracking O2 exposure. There really is no such thing as air/nitrox mode.

just wanted to be ultra safe.

If you are going to use a computer set it to the correct parameters for the dive.

Set it to whatever mix you are using, and dive that.
That will be the safest option while diving the computer.

Add your safety/comfort factor to what the computer says.
Ex: don't ride your NDLs, surface with plenty of NDL left to be extra safe.

But don't try to fool yourself into a comfort zone by configuring the computer incorrectly for the dive.

If you are Johnny McTables and have run all the proper calcs, then go for it.
Otherwise 'Ultra Safe' and tricking the computer don't go together.

Just my opinion, offered for free. So yeah...

The Oceanic VEO computers default to "Air" mode when powered on. They can be manually set to EAN mode where the lowest O2% (and default setting) for EAN mode, is 21% O2. If the computer powers down the mode returns to "Air". As mentioned previously, making a dive while set to any EAN mode locks the computer out of air mode for 24 hours. However you can set the EAN O2% to 21% and dive with air without any problems. The biggest difference between air and 21% EAN mode is that EAN mode tracks and displays oxygen related information and warnings.

IMHO this is only confusing if you're monkeying around with setting your computer for one gas while you're breathing a different one. K.I.S.S.

I'm 99% confident that is inaccurate. Once you activate nitrox you can't go back to air (just set EAN21 if you want) but you can go air -> nitrox.

For the OC-1 the time lapsed for it to default to air is a 24 hours surface interval. That's why I didn't remember having to reset it for nitrox during a trip. This is true only for Gas 1, gas 2 defaults to air after each dive. You can change it for gas 2 but never for a lower value than gas 1. The datamask is the same way but only a single gas. The OC1 is the same as the veo for tracking oxygen related information.

I think the OP got fed up with our discussion about 30-some posts ago. :D
