Support the tourism to Egypt

Dear friends it is still going very bad with tourism in Egypt thanks to the media that makes people unnecessarily afraid to come to the beautiful Egypt.
In El Gouna is the first dive center now closed many hotels and dive centers are closed in Egypt. And many European countries still have not lifted the travelban to Sharm El Sheikh are still not lifted Also there are stil no direct flights from Europe to Luxor
This is terrible for the Egyptians who earn their living from tourism
Please help and promote and support the tourism to Egypt

We live in the UK and have enjoyed wonderful liveaboards and land visits to Egypt every year since we learned to dive in Sharm in 2008. Its such a shame to see the main industry, tourism , going into freefall. The marine life and reefs are world class and I really cannot recommend it enough to fellow SBers.

I did my bit to support the industry a couple of weeks ago when myself and 14 other divers were on a liveaboard from Hurghada doing the Wrecks and reefs itinerary.

Would agree that the industry need support at the moment. From what our guides were saying their operation is working at about 25% capacity which I would guess is not sustainable long term

My wife and I did a wonderful 2 weeks in Cairo and on the Nile in February of this year. I did 2 weeks of liveaboard in April/May. Without the crowds, this is a great time to visit Egypt.

We would be more than happy to visit Egypt, both the resorts and the dive boats. Unfortunately the airlines are now making a 4-4,5 hours flight into a 9-11,5 trip via Istanbul.
Been there anyway and will go again soon but some reasonable flights would sure be appreciated!

There are lots of charter flights at the weekend from London to Hurgada..am not sure if that might suit. The liveaboards in the Red Sea are amazing value and well the photos above speak for themselves.

I wished that people in such stunningly beautiful countries with wonderful climates and amazing natural resources stopped fighting and killing each other and enjoyed their lives.

The impact of no foreign currency in the country is having a devastating effect on Egyptians. Import of food and medicine is severely restricted and from my personal experience (I was in the country last week on business) it is the worst it has ever been. Many people will now tell you that things were never as bad under Mubarak.

So yes, go visit Egypt, take lots of US$ or € or £ and make use of the deserted dive sites while it lasts.

Official exchange rates are currently EGP8.88/US$ ..... Black market rates are EGP16 ..... so tipping in US$ or other hard currency should be encouraged.

I hadn't thought of that. I'd been planning to change my Canadian into EGP.

You will get a lousy rate by the bank Chilly, so change only what you think you will need and tip in hard currency, US$ might be more appreciated than Canadian$ as it's more readily accepted.
