I've been diving a 28 lb wing since my 2nd OW pool session, so I've got 8 dives on it besides the pool session. Over the weekend I won a Halcyon Infinity 40 BP/W at an underwater pumpkin carving contest. I've always had major issues getting the shoulder straps on the harness (Hollis Elite 2) tightened because I simply couldn't get enough purchase when attempting to tighten, even after moving where the shoulder straps connect to the waist belt. My dive buddy always had to do it for me, which was a PITA to me. The Halcyon harness has the quick cinch feature that is easy for me to work.

My question: will I feel much of a difference switching from a 28 lb wing to a 40 lb one? I really have no clue. The question just occurred to me this morning. :)

If your harness is adjusted properly you shouldn't need to tighten or loosen the straps at all.

why not use the 28lb wing on the halcyon rig? or ask the shop if you can change the 40 to a 30 wing? 40lb wings are not necessary in the vast majority of diving, so I'd either see if you can trade it for a 30, or sell it and use your current 28lb wing as it should be compatible with your Halcyon rig since they use STA's

@PfcAJ the Hollis Elite 2 harness she mentions the struggle with is Hollis' knock off of the Transplate and those do require some snugging up due to the chest strap but because the straps themselves are so heavy, they don't hold themselves up like a Hog harness

Thanks, guys, but that still doesn't answer my original question...

which 28lb wing do you have?

Based on your location, I'll assume the Trianta wing. The Trianta wing to put it bluntly is a straight up knock-off of the Halcyon Eclipse 30 wing and is produced by Hollis at their facility in Asia. The 40lb wing from Halcyon is a similar design but is unnecessarily large and I can tell the difference between the two. Enough to the point that if I was in your situation, I would ask them to swap the 40lb wing for a 30lb wing, or I would sell the 40lb wing and use the Trianta wing on the Halcyon backplate. You will be more stable, have easier dumping, and less drag.

I doubt you'll feel much of a difference ... I've dived several different wings (Halcyon, DSS, HOG, Dive Rite) from sizes 27 lbs to 45 lbs and not noticed a lot of difference. I think the shape of the wing has more to do with its performance than size (within reason).

I have not used a single tank wing as small as 28#
I do have a Halcyon 40# single tank wing and its fairly streamlined. I can't really tell it apart from my 38# doubles wing (which is tiny for a doubles wing but used with al80s) I can definitely tell they (both) are smaller than a 55# doubles wing.

My guess for your situation would be no. The difference in the beginning is going to be so slight you'll never notice. After a few hundred dives if you were to switch back and forth you might notice a slight difference in where the dump is or something like that.

then nothing to worry about. Personally I'd sell the Halcyon wing and try to make a few bucks from it, or keep it as a backup rig or loaner rig etc. If you like the Trianta, there is 0 reason you can't use it on the Halcyon since like I said, it is straight up copied from the Eclipse 30 wing and they did a good job at copying it. I would be able to notice the difference, but it's subtle and not a deal breaker.
