    Puerto Vallarta / Sayulita Diving

There is a newer dive shop called Dressel divers located in the Iberostar resort in Punta Mita. Does anyone have any experience? I have contacted them and they have been very nice to deal with so far. B.

Barely used XS Zeagle Ranger BC with Zeagle Octo Z

This BC is 4 years old purchased new but only used 6 times. It was purchased for my son and he has grown out of it. It would also work well for a small woman. It is size XS. It has the Zeagle Octo Z alternate air source. I would suggest that since it hasn't been wet for a few years that you get...

Looking for feedback on the Aqua Lung Zuma BC?

Both my son and I have Zumas. I switched from a Nighthawk and love it. It is less restricting without the back plate and my boyancy has improved. It sets up a little differently then other BCs and some of the folks on the dive boats aren't aware so double check the height on the tank, they...

    Sea sick at surface interval

One thing that I have not seen mentioned and this gets my son often. Is after you surface get out quickly. Don't stare at the boat going up and down or the ladder. A lot of times you are concentrating on proper boarding procedures, getting your fins off, grabbing a ladder and everything...

My first warm water experience - Grand Cayman

Sounds like your swimthrough on the East End was turtle pass great dive site. Have done it a couple of times nothing like popping out of the swim through into the great big blue. Suprised at the surface swim at the Kittiwake the mooring balls are almost right on top of the wreck. Was it...

Travel diving and being led around by "divemasters"

We dive the Caymans a lot with Ocean Frontiers on the East End and I like the way they do it. They always ask who wants a guided dive or not. Almost always people opt for the guided dive. A great map is drawn on the white board showing everybody what the plan is where to meet etc. The dive...

    Cozumel Drift?

We dove Cozumel a few months ago for the first time and did not add weight. In fact as we dove a lot my son ending up dropping a couple. The current changes but it is really not that swift. We had no issues decending and my son sometimes go slow becasue he wears a pretty thick wet suit. We...

Scuba Activities ? (things to do underwater?)

Recently on a dive in the Caymans one of our group was having trouble decending. We were waiting at the mooring pin for maybe 5 min. I was looking around and found a small lead weight on the bottom. (like one you would use for fishing) so we preceded to try and play catch where one diver...

Problem decending on my 2nd dive

I have more of a problem on really shallow dives with squeezes and I never do on deep dives. I believe I have read that the pressure change in the first 20 feet is pretty rough on the ears/sinus. B.

COZUMEL - Wetsuit / No Wetsuit?

My son and I were down there about 3 weeks ago. I wore a 3MM shortie and was fine. My son who is very, very skinny wore a 5mm full and still got a little cold on the second dive. So much depends on how much you are going to dive the DMs were wearing 7mm+ of neoprene, hoods etc as they are in...

    Junior Open Water Question

I believe the depth is recommended. My son has been JOW certified since he was 11 We have always tried to keep him within his recommended depth range but that has been our choice not the Dive Shop or dive masters. I am sure we could have taken him down on the wall dives in the Caribbean to...

    Backup/redundant gauges

When I am going on a dive trip. I carry an extra Computer and analog SPG unit. I dive with my son who has an air intergrated computer and I dive with a watch/transmitter. Should any of these units fail on the boat or get damaged we can still dive by installing the back up. I started doing...

Do You Really Trust Rental Gear?

On almost every dive I dive with my 13 year old son we both have and travel with full sets of gear, except for weights and tanks. There is of course the safety/quality issue with your own gear, that is not to say our gear has never broken. Stuff happens. The think I like is that it makes...

    Breathing basics?

I don't see any issues with short pauses in breathing while you are diving or slowing or extending an inhale or exhale. If you are using your lungs for boyancy control and to move your self up and down small distances. I do it all the time exploring reefs if I am going to need to look under a...

    Save the Turtle

Well done! I think it is important we try to clean up the oceans as much as we can when we dive. B.

    Headaches while diving

Thanks for all the great information. The head aches usually occur about 15 - 20 min in to the dive. The pain is strongest at the top and back of his head so I don't think it is sinus related. This guy is in amazing shape works out everyday. I don't know about the hydration I will ask. B.
