    Catalina Express

This makes no sense to me. They now weigh your bag going and it must be under 50 pounds. What prevents you from putting all the stuff you took out of your bag to make weight back into your bag after they weigh it? In fact, as a diver, they allow you up to two bags at 50# each. They don't...

This makes me wish I lived in SoCal.

Should I buy a drysuit or is a 8/7 a good choice as well?

This thread has gotten a bit long so I must admit that I skipped ahead after reading the first 3 pages of responses. Sorry if I'm repeating what someone one page 4 or 5 said. My best advice - take a drysuit class from someone that regularly dives a drysuit. There are many instructors that hold...

    Bonaire Trip Report 9/14-9/21

We are poised to leave for Bonaire on Friday the 27th of September. Will be my third visit and a first for my wife. Last time I visited was October 2011. Anything significantly different since then?

    Talcott Shoals on the Peace

Britt you didn't say anything about the giant male Sheephead I shot, then you shot and then you wrestled to the bottom. That was probably the highlight of that trip!

What drysuit undergarments for new drysuit diver in SoCal?

You might consider an undergarment made by Weezle. It's made in the UK so that should tell you something about the water temps the thing was designed for. I bought a used DUI trilaminate dry suit on-line and it has taken me several attempts to plug all the leaks. In the process, on too many...

Article: Dive dry with dr. Bill #529: The new king of the reef

One of the first things I do after logging onto ScubaBoard is look for your most recent article. Almost as much fun as speaking with you in person. Having done so once more, I learned something from your newest contribution and got a chuckle or two in the process. Thanks for sharing your...

    Scooter diving in Maui!

Greg: Thanks for taking me out on the scooter last weekend. That was quite an experience. Looking forward to doing it again sometime. Or maybe you might want to come visit California - bring scooters.

Good shore diving near San Diego?

Can anyone give recommendations for an easy/nice shore dive in the San Diego, Ca. area? We will be traveling to SD this weekend for a business meeting next week and I was hoping we could sneak in a dive or two while we were in town. Something with good macro opportunities would be great. Have...

    Magician to Catalina

We've been to the Rock Quarry 3 times now, at least, and never saw one. I'm wondering if it is a myth perpetuated by divemasters that have a good laugh the whole time they watch our bubbles crisscrossing the rock pile looking for something that never was.

August 2012 in Cozumel (Its a dry heat....)

Reading this thread and you guys are scaring me. The wife and I are headed to Cozumel the first week of July and expected it to be hot but how hot? Central California is hot in July but we don't have humidity to go with it. Already know I can't hide underwater the entire time we're there.

Strangest place you have rinsed your dive gear?

+1 for JT83 and the cruise ship shower. The Carnival Valor is a sister ship to the Glory and the shower is tiny but works pretty well for gear rinsing. Rigging the regs, BCD and wet suit so they hang and don't block/plug the drain is challenging. Best to let your non-diving wife shower first...

Bonaire, What did you wish you knew before you went?

Whew! This has become a long thread. I found it interesting how some people can see, do and experience the same thing and have completely different impressions. I've only been able to go to Bonaire twice and am eagerly looking forward to going back many more times. If you love to dive and...

    canon vs tokina?

+1 What PatW said regarding the Tokina 10-17. This is a great wide angle lens and certainly an easy lens to get started with underwater. Has tremendous depth of field which means you primarily need to concentrate on composition. Unfortunately for my bank account,I got bored with the close...

DUI TLS Signature Series: Moisture issues

I recently purchased a used TLS 350 dry suit to compliment a heavier crushed neoprene suit I had been diving previously. After patching several small leaks, I too have noticed the same kind of moisture on the outside of my undergarment which also happens to be a Weezle Extreme. Never noticed...

Canon EF 100mm F 2.8 USM L series vs. the non-L series version

Thanks for all your replys. It seems the L series is the winner here. Somehow I thought that might be the case. Above water certainly but didn't know how that translated to below.

Canon EF 100mm F 2.8 USM L series vs. the non-L series version

Anybody have a educated opinion concerning these two lenses underwater? I'm particularly curious if the L series lens would improve focus speed and image quality. Above water the L series lens is reportedly superior to the lesser cost lens. However, underwater, the differences might not be as...

Be careful with your gear at Casino Pt...

Have visited the dive park at Catalina 2 dozen times or so and have never had a problem or heard of anyone having a problem with theft. Sorry to hear about your loss. The Solaflex is the warmest wetsuit I have worn to date. Like one of the other posters has mentioned, I always felt among all...

    Pt. Lobos 5/16/12 | Video

Great video! I liked the captions, editing and the music. Fish ID isn't something you would normally see in a video like this and it really does add an exciting dimension to the experience. I'll be sharing this with all my non-diving friends and family to explain why we get up at 4:00 am to...
