Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

Based on the comments below the news article, it doesn't sound like she made it. Such a tragedy - she was very young. I heard she was an open water student, but that is just hearsay. A friend of mine was at the lake this weekend and told me about it.

Certified Diver taking Discover Scuba?? (Bonaire)

Not sure if this fit better in the cruise forum, or the Bonaire forum, but I didn't want to limit responses so I'm posting it here. I'll be on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship in April. The friend I'm going with is not a diver but has expressed an interest in doing a "Discover Scuba'...

Another CZM diving death Nov 21.

Her husband was not on the dive. He was waiting back on shore. I understand that she opted to go back to the boat by herself and was seen ascending to her safety stop. After that, who knows? It is a mystery as to what happened, as twodawgs stated, and such a sad ending for a lady who was so...

Suzanne Stevenson 21 NOV 2011 Cozumel

For people who knew her, there is one hell of a Facebook memorial page set up by someone also strangely known as "FB." Suzanne had many many friends. The Facebook group is already up to over 300 members and growing fast.

Another CZM diving death Nov 21.

Hearing the explanation so far makes me wonder (and another friend of hers and mine talked about this earlier today) ... where in gosh darn heck was her buddy  OK great, so they all planned to go into a wreck and then at the last minute one person changes her mind. Her buddy should...

    Fatality in Cozumel Nov 21

I hope if someone finds out more info about what happened they'll post it here. The Cozumel sub-forum thread about it has some info, but kind of gets buried in the threads about where to stay and which Dive Ops to use.

Another CZM diving death Nov 21.

I really wish someone with knowledge of what happened would come here and post. I knew Suzanne, although not very well (I didn't even know she was a diver), but as a diver myself, and a new one at that, I want to make sure that if the circumstances of her death can help others avoid the same...

Rest in peace Suzanne! You were one of the nicest, most fun to be around people I ever met. On On HH (from the other HH).

    TUSA Imprex Tri-ex fins

I just listed a set of fins on ebay. For a new diver, it seemed a bit crazy to own three pairs of fins already :dork2: so the pair that hasn't been used by me yet must go. I bought these as part of a whole set of dive gear, sold to me by a friend of a friend with some sort of ear disease that...

    Special lenses for mask?

Another +1 for the DiveOptx lenses. They came in a set of two but I just use one, stuck to the inside of my left mask lens. Works perfectly for reading things close up and it hasn't come off while diving yet. It came loose once when someone other than myself put defogger in the mask and messed...

Miami Beach charter leaves divers in open waters off Key Biscayne

This thread just cemented my decision to bring along my safety sausage on my upcoming Florida trip (really really trying to pack light, but it's not working) I'm hoping, however, that going out on a six-pack and not a "cattle boat" will make it a little more obvious that I'm missing :eyebrow...

Main causes of scuba diving accidents?

 Killer lobsters? Why do so many die? Sorry, but as a newbie diver I'm not sure why it's dangerous. I also don't see why hunting for lobsters would be fun - just head on over to a nice seafood restaurant, cheaper than diving.

    Cupcakes at 70ft....

This thread is great. I am definitely going to take a food item or two on my next dive. Now, what can I take that hasn't been experimented with before

How deep have you gone on air?

65 feet :D just deep enough for AOW. However, that dive was in 2 ft visibility and 50 degrees, in a 3 mil :shocked2: without gloves :eyebrow:

Boat Diving Questions - impatient crew and new divers

It's entirely possible, and am trying to be fair and acknowledge that the divers had some responsibility to be ready, but Diver1 hadn't said that she felt sick on this dive (the first dive after a lunch break on land) and Diver2 specifically mentioned the unclipped hoses and expressed concern...

Boat Diving Questions - impatient crew and new divers

Sorry, by saying the gear was set up I meant that the BC was attached to the tank as was the reg, and the air was on. Diver1 had just forgotten to clip off the hoses. That was all that was left to do Also, in Diver2's case, the SPG is clipped to a D ring across the BC. In other words it...

Boat Diving Questions - impatient crew and new divers

Fwiw, there was no "faffing" around; the divers had less than 5 minutes before being hurried off the boat. As stated earlier, the gear had been set up and just needed to be put on. Diver1 had been seasick on an earlier dive. This was Dive 3 of the day. The divers were seated far from the...
