I just finshed a SDI OW course and throught the entire course I was instructed that to avoid over expansion injuries a maximum safe ascent rate was 30 fpm...
SDI/TDI does not require a thorough understanding of the dive tables, just their theory, at least not as far as I can tell from my class. They push computers heavily and leave tables up to the discretion of the instructor, so I found another instructor to show me the ins and outs of the tables...
I've used the Coca-Cola trick in the past and it works well, it also does a good job of taking the wax off your windshield after you go through an automatic car wash. Collectors will frequently drain their coke cans before storage because in a few years it will eat right through the can.
I've been to Grand Cayman 3 times and never saw a shark on any of the trips. According to the local DMs they have been seen, but very rarely. Enjoy your trip.
