Similan Liveaboards (Is someone really asking about them again?...Please read)

I'd figure I'd post here as I just came back from a 7 day/6 night liveaboard and when I initially set it up I didn't know much about where I should be looking or who to book through. The place I booked through was Kiwidiver and I had an excellent time. I don't think that you'll have too much...

    Calling SSI divers

While that would be ideal, that isn't a PADI requirement. I received my AOW card when I only had 12 dives under my belt. What RonFrank said about his AOW course though holds true for me as well. I was very glad that I took my AOW course, it took an activity that I was theoretically able to do on...

Help End Shark Finning and the sale of Shark Products

First, wow. No words for the ignorance, I am only choosing to reply to this post of yours, as others have already explained how ignorant your other posts are. A) Marijuana isn't nearly in the same category as murdering endangered species for one . B) Making something illegal doesn't instantly...

Wearing dive gear on the plane

...and all this time I was worried about buying my own equipment because I'd have to pack it everywhere. =P I could wear the mask, snorkel, BC, and the regs as a necklace and not even worry about checking a bag!

Planning a trip while considering the current situation in Cairo/Sharm

Thanks to everyone who helped! I had a great 14 dives with the Red Sea College! Unfortunately I didn't see any hammerheads - I guess that just means I have to come back!

    now tourism is dead!

This might sound ignorant and I apologize but what is the bigger picture? If this was a way to increase the cash taken from tourists - why not just up the rates for the Visa on arrival? I don't see the benefit for the Egyptian people through this decision. Yes, perhaps it's "payback" for what...

    now tourism is dead!

Ugh. I fly in on the 12th. I am relying on the visa upon arrival, I have no time to get a visa before I go. I guess all I can do is cross my fingers and hope I just miss this. Though, it is the weekend, I can't imagine they would be applying this policy over the weekend, would they? Here's...

    airlines to Sharm

Unfortunately I don't know of a direct flight from Turkey (Istanbul) but I booked mine with a short layover in Cairo. However, this site might help you on looking for routes (and then cheap flights) - Cheap Flights - Compare Airline Tickets with Skyscanner.com In it you could type in a number of...

Footage of recent beach diving in Sharm El Sheikh

Looks gorgeous, almost unreal! I'm pretty excited, this will be my first dive experience where some of the larger marine life has the possibility of showing up! Sure beats my little mountain lake dives back home! Did you do any other dives than the ones filmed?

Planning a trip while considering the current situation in Cairo/Sharm

I don't know for sure now though I haven't read anything bad. I can advise you after mid September as I will have to go through that process anyway. Thanks Divebunnie and Crowley! The rates are not as cheap as I may have hoped but in terms of EU/US standards, I'm getting a pretty good deal...

After almost 50 years, I've finally seen it all!

No words. Even if you were not certified, how could you forget the thing that allows you to BREATH! Yes, the tank could have been closed, empty but forgotten? :rofl3:

    at what point are you..

I think one of the worst things is to consider yourself an "advanced diver" if you really aren't! Being humble, especially given circumstances that are sometimes out of our control, goes a long way. As for myself, I plan to continue learning. Will I be more experienced than some? Yes. Have I...

Ballsing up the Night diving spec.... advice needed

I just want to make one mention that bubbles (in a current) may not necessarily go up. Luckily the gauge will tell you without a doubt! I've never personally experienced vertigo but I can imagine that it's a terrible thing. Hopefully the rest of the advice in this thread helps!

The ONLY time it might be OK to dive and drink!!!

I'd drink it after a dive if it were available!

Planning a trip while considering the current situation in Cairo/Sharm

Thanks for all your help guys! I booked my flight from Istanbul to Sharm for the 12th and plan to be in Egypt for about 9 days - 7 of them in Sharm! I'm just waiting to hear back from Red Sea College regarding taking the wreck specialty course and and perhaps doing some other diving. I'm not...

    Know of Unique Specialty Courses?

I don't know, Peak performance is pretty sexy! A diver with a great deal of lung control always gets me going...!:eyebrow:

    Know of Unique Specialty Courses?

AquaTrek's Extreme Shark Diver is one I am planning to take next May. The Great White one sounds pretty neat, do you happen to have a link for it? I'm also pretty interesting in racking up some different specialties - not so much to put towards my eventual DM but more because I find them neat! I...

To Buddy or not to Buddy?

I've thought about solo diving when I am more experienced. It's something that I'd like to learn, if only for the insta-buddies you meet on a random trip out and leave your side moments after you hit the water. There are a few dives that I've done in which I have felt completely alone anyway so...

Planning a trip while considering the current situation in Cairo/Sharm

Thanks RSShadow, I suppose that's right. I guess I'm just being overly cautious. Would you book in advance? It seems more likely that I should as otherwise they may not dive due to a lack of people. I suppose the only major thing I have to worry about is the potential flight cancellations and no...

AOW student dies in training: Alberta

I believe he meant that Northwest Scuba only certifies PADI courses, which I believe is accurate. They might do a bit of Tec as well but I am not certain on that. Some of the posts in this thread are concerning OW students being thrust into the AOW class. As someone who was recently certified...
