Martha's Quarry (Nashville area) rate Increase.

That was my first thought, but he did say something about an orphanage. By moving the point-of-sale to the dive shops, he gets brownie points from them for the increased traffic. It's a win-win for them, but not a great development for those with no dive shop affiliation.

Martha's Quarry (Nashville area) rate Increase.

AFAIK, the $20.00 cards can be picked up at any dive shop in the Nashville area. Based on one guy's experience, it might be a good idea to call your chosen shop ahead of time to make sure they're in stock. FWIW, Fred says the extra $10.00 will go to charity, though I'm not completely...

    Middle TN SB'ers Get Together

FYI: Temps this weekend were 55F down to the thermocline at 18', 48F at the bottom of the houses.

    Middle TN SB'ers Get Together

Martha's opens the first weekend in April, per the website.

    Rigging stage spg

With the first stage in place and the SPG coming off the bottom, bend the hose behind the reg, then slide an already-prepared loop of cave line up to near the ends of the hose assemblies. When you release the SPG, the line should become taut. It may take you a few tried to get the length...

Trouble accessing spg when using stage bottle

JJ stated in a followup post: Thanks for the call out. Yes, I misspoke. On occasion I have changed the pressure gauge order with larger stacks of towable gear. Yet, I do usually place the pressure gauge at the bottom; this is particularly true when dropping stages or with most basic diving...

Suggestions for Christmas present for hubby

A $500 contribution to establish the Scooter Fund would be deeply appreciated, I'm sure.

You can't go wrong with a scooter.

Trouble accessing spg when using stage bottle

There's always an exception, I guess, and today it appears to be me. For cave dives, I prefer keeping the SPG on the lowest part of the D-ring (viewed vertically), stage above that, and O2 on the top. The SPG seems to be most readily available in the lower position and the first bottle to...

    Martha's Quarry Customer Appreciation Day

Sorry I missed everyone yesterday. I was just out there today for a couple dives and met a few people. Vis was pretty good at 30' plus and temps were 55F at 48' with mid sixties above the thermocline at around 30'. I'll be there training frequently this spring and early summer. If you see...

is this Saturday, or so I'm told. Nothing on the website though. Anyone know?

    DUI Rock boots and DIR

If you need the rock boots for your normal dive environment, use them. The tradeoff is that they can restrict your ankle movement and may cause foot cramping on long swimming dives. They also slow you down on gearing up/down, but that's beside the point. I used them for awhile, then...

DIR-F Reel & Lift noob question

Mike, I'd say go ahead and get the 150' since you'll need it as a safety spool for Cave 1 anyway. I've used a Halcyon 6' closed-circuit SMB for several years, but prefer the new 60# semi-closed Halcyon lift bag which I recently acquired. I find the latter one to be easier to stow in and...

    Comfybite and DIR?

That's understandable. In the case of what I posted above, this came directly to me from a member of the Britannic expedition.

    normoxic/Hypoxic diffrences

Right, but he referred to the concentration of a gas within a mix (FO2 in this case), not the PPO2.

    normoxic/Hypoxic diffrences

Normoxic is 21%. The percentage of a gas in a mix doesn't normally change during the dive.

    Diving in Nashville

With no OW classes in sight, vis at Martha's on Saturday was above 30' with peaks of 40' plus. Temps were 50F-55F between 10' and 30', good enough for a couple of 70 minute dives.

    Comfybite and DIR?

The palate strap on the Comfobites could hinder or prevent getting a seal on an unconscious/distressed diver. The Scubapro mouthpieces, which I find similar in comfort, do not have that feature, so you would be able to pry apart the flaps and press the reg direct onto the victim's mouth.

So you think you are diving air...

As long as MODs suffice for labelling and doubles are left out of this altogether, I agree.
