    Why does DAN say

Here is DAN's official recommendation for divers with diabetes. It's pretty strict: http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/news/download/SummaryGuidelines.pdf

    Why does DAN say

So even DAN isn't THAT clear about diabetes DAN Divers Alert Network : Diabetes — The Risks There are obvious issues: 1) If a diver goes into insulin shock under water, EVEN if his buddy realizes what is going on.. How is the buddy supposed to give the diver glucose? Managing diabetes...

    Mask leak

It's leaking from the skirt/hard plastic border? That's definitely a bad mask. The normal place for a leak is the skirt/face barrier. Anything else is a manufacturing defect. It might be a bad batch of masks that all have the same problem.

    Mask leak

It sounds like either you didn't fit the mask directly to skin (hair, hood, tension from the snorkel can alter the mask fit) or the mask is simply the wrong fit. Also, straining to bite down on the regulator can alter your facial fit. Have you tried, out of the water, doing the following...

Transmitter shows same pressure for several minutes

There's another thread about whether you should dive with backup SPGs when using AI. The OP was not asking for advice about alternate SPGs. You've made your point now please move on. As for the OP question. I've never seen that happen. It could also be a problem with the first stage HP...

    Suggestion for VT3 firmware

Hmm. It's definitely possible. I'll keep that in mind for the future. Thanks again!

    Suggestion for VT3 firmware

I'm pretty sure I set it to EAN32 at MOST 20 minutes before my dive. I really doubt it took me two hours to don my gear and get out there... :(. I'll pay closer attention next time though. Two hours is definitely more than enough time, and if that's the case, then I'm fine with the way it is.

My first experience with BP/Wing... and a question

I'm using the SeaSoft weight pouches, since they have a clip release. And a way to zipper load from the top without pulling the clips. However, I will mention a huge disadvantage: They take up a LOT of space, and I have a fairly small waist. This means that I have a D-ring, followed by a...

    BCD for large divers

Every dive shop picks a list of manufacturer's whose stuff they carry. What you need to do is find a local dive shop that carries the manufacturer you care about. Zeagle has been brought up a few times in the recommendations, but I'll mention that Zeagle is one of those brands very few stores...

    Suggestion for VT3 firmware

So, something I recently noticed: I went diving with EAN32 recently. On shore, while setting up the gear, I set up the VT3 for EAN32. Checked pressure, and then started donning the gear. Did the buddy check, and walked to the water and swam out to the dive spot. Somewhere during this...

    Multi level dive Question

You're gonna end up freaking out, but the correct answer to your question is to use 'max depth'. If you're using basic RDP tables, you compute the entire dive time until the safety stop at the deepest level you reached in the dive (even if you only spent one second there). For this reason...

Backup gauges for air-integrated computers: a poll

Ok. First of all. Someone here just failed a basic probability class. Having two computers does not double the odds of a failure. This is only true if failures are independent. Given that failures are usually related to abuse of the device and batteries running out, they are probably more...

    NAUI Master/Rescue To PADI DiveMaster

Don't know about porting a NAUI cert to a PADI cert, but specifically with respect to the EFR, PADI accepts CPR/AED and First Aid from the Red Cross as a valid proof of EFR training. Just make sure your certifications are still valid.

    BCD for large divers

I'd assume you'd have a LOT more issues with the wetsuit than with the BCD. Did you have to get a custom-sized wetsuit? I'd expect an XL or XXL BCD should fit you fine.. just walk into any store and try some on. Most rental places will have those available. No vacation rental place that...

What classes are most prevalent for AOW?

I'm surprised Night wasn't one of the required ones (and am surprised that Peak Performance Buoancy is). Also you mention Boat and Wreck are not an option and then include them in the list... which is it? Anyways, definitely take Night Diving -- it will get you more comfortable with not...

Do you still calculate pressure groups if you use a computer?

I think that depends on the model of Oceanic. The VT3 I have is actually a Pellagic computer (same as the Aeris V3). It's very liberal compared to most other recreational diving computers. However, you can modify its settings (more easily done via the computer interface). You can lower the...

Proof of SSI certs and specialties

I'm pretty sure you can walk into any SSI dive shop and ask for said 'proof'. I'm surprised they don't accept the little stickers on your main card. However, if you ask them they can issue a separate card (one for each specialty). Will that suffice? SSI doesn't have an 'online way to view...

Do you still calculate pressure groups if you use a computer?

Because different schools/scuba systems teach different tables. I have both PADI and SSI tables, and those two are completely different (SSI is more conservative in time allowed, and has fewer pressure groups). I don't know what other systems teach, but I presume there's quite a lot of...

    Holding depth in Water column??

Obviously the best way is the 'depth gauge/computer'. If I'm ascending a little fast I tend to notice it with my ears. But it's hard to notice if I'm only ascending at 10ft/min.... One 'trick' mentioned in night diving is to pay attention to the bubbles your breath out. Over time you can...

Do you still calculate pressure groups if you use a computer?

I compute the pressure groups mostly out of habit and to fill out the log pages. It's a habit I picked up from my AOW instructor. It also keeps me in practice, and gives me an idea of the limits should I have computer issues. One thing I've noticed is that on almost all my dives, I am...
