It’s that time of year again when everyone makes up a long list of resolutions that will hold strong until about Valentines’ Day.
Yes, you can spend another year plugging away at the more standard resolutions, or you can create a new, and more appropriate list, that’s focused on what you clearly love most – scuba diving.

Why not make this the year where you commit to resolutions that revolve around your favorite passion, are completely achievable, and will have a solid impact on your life to boot?

Time to scrap the old goals of losing weight or relaxing more, (although scuba diving can certainly help with that too), and create a new list of resolutions that are tailored just for you.

Need some inspiration? Here’s a few resolution ideas to get you started.

Try a New Diving Destination

It can be so easy to be lured back to the places you are familiar with, both because it’s where you’re comfortable, and because it’s a place you love. But there are thousands of sites around the globe that are just waiting to be explored, so why not branch out and try something new? For exotic tastes, check out Truk (or Chuuk), Thailand, Indonesia, or the 7,100 islands of the Philippines.

For something closer to home, check out Key Largo in Florida, Monterrey Bay in California, or the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It doesn’t matter how long the journey to reach the destination is, just so long as long as it’s new to you.

Learn a New Skill

Learning a new skill can be as simple as signing up for an underwater photography course or a dive propulsion class, or as potentially challenging as obtaining a Rescue or Advanced certification. But no matter which route you take, furthering your education will boost your confidence and your overall enjoyment of every dive.

Make New Friends

Have you joined your local diving club yet? If not, this might be a good year to do so, both for the wealth of knowledge, and the potential to meet tons of folks who are as fanatic about diving as you are. Want to expand your already large circle? Then plan a liveaboard trip where you can meet and greet with other diving aficionados while sharing the vacation of a lifetime.

Stay Current on Your Diving Skills

Attend a refresher course (finally) or at least practice your emergency skills twice a year. Making sure you’re up-to-date on what to do if a problem arises will ensure that your diving adventures can continually remain stress-free. If you have kids, get them into diving by taking a course along with them!

Update your Equipment

Good equipment and safety go hand-in-hand, so invest in a new wet suit, dive mask, or BCD – whatever it might take to make your dive more stress-free, safe, and even more enjoyable.

Volunteer

Help out with “Dive Against Debris” – an international effort created by divers and designed for divers to survey debris and rid the underwater world of trash, or volunteer at sponsored local activities like Project AWARE clean-ups. Lending a hand underwater is not only good for the soul, but it helps ensure your favorite dive sites are available and beautiful for generations to come.

Happy New Year from Scuba Toys! We resolve to dive more in 2016!
