Thanks Tyler, this was on the Sign On San Diego website tonight:

SAN DIEGO – The body of a scuba diver reported missing Sunday near kelp beds off Point Loma was recovered by a rescue dive team, a lifeguard lieutenant said.

Lifeguards were called to Sunset Cliffs about 12:50 p.m. to search for the diver, who reportedly was in 80 feet of water, San Diego lifeguard Lt. Greg Buchanan said.

The man had taken the dive off a private boat, Buchanan said.

The lifeguard dive unit was assisted by helicopter and boat crews from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The team found the diver's body shortly before 4 p.m., Buchanan said.

Does private mean a boat charter or a boat owned by just one person? This really sucks!

I would assume that private boat means one that is not available for public charter and owned by someone on a non-commercial level.

POINT LOMA – Rescuers searching for a missing scuba diver off Sunset Cliffs found his body shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday.

The man, whose name was not released, was reportedly diving in 60 to 80 feet of water in a spot known for its kelp beds. The diver was described as about 55 years old and a moderately experienced diver.

Emergency efforts started about 1 p.m. after the diver did not surface with his partner, said Lt. Greg Buchanan with the San Diego Lifeguard Service. No other details were available.

Has anyone seen anything more on this such as what may have happened exactly?
