And lighting, and books and lessons and classes and time online learning and, and, and, and....
 
Just dive, shoot, and, of course, talk to friends here on SB. If it's not fun it's not worth doing. If you don't seek the newest and top of the line equipment, but instead just what you need, your wallet doesn't have to get completely empty :D. I'm happy without a strobe (until my wallet fills back up) - I'm not selling my pictures so I don't need to get that "cover page, artsy, museum quality" shot. I dive and enjoy taking pictures of the dive. I even like the blue ones. Digital is great - very easy to shoot and learn without breaking the bank. You should definitely listen to UP and come to the dark side :D.
