Diving fatality reported near Nanoose Bay | CHEK
A popular Nanoose Bay dive site was closed this weekend after the death of a scuba diver. But it’s not yet clear what went wrong.

It happened at the Tyee Cove dive site, which is about half an hour north of Nanaimo.

Divers trying to use the site yesterday were told that police didn’t want anyone diving there until all the victim’s gear had been retrieved. RCMP wouldn’t comment on the incident but CHEK News has learned the victim is a man from Alberta.

Police say more information should be available tomorrow.

Oh My, that is terrible.

They're still not saying what happened?

Edmonton man dies in B.C. scuba-diving incident
A 52-year-old Edmonton man died July 20 in a scuba-diving incident in the ocean near Nanoose Bay on the east side of Vancouver Island, the British Columbia Coroners Service said Monday.

Martin Keith Bishop had been visiting the region on a family vacation when he went on a scuba-diving expedition with a dive-master and one other person, the coroners service said in a news release.

The three divers entered the water at a well-known diving spot in Nanoose Bay.

"During the dive, something went wrong and Mr. Bishop was deceased at the scene," the news release said.

The coroners service and the RCMP continue to investigate the death.

Wow very sad news ... Tyee is such a calm and easy to dive and navigate site, I wonder what could have gone wrong with a local DM guiding even. So sad :(
