Those elephant seals at Piedras Blancas sure have increased their population! <snipped> Wonder if the bulls were bellowing.

There was one HUGE bull and many smaller sub-adults. It is obvious though, that the population is just beginning to show up... there was still room on the sand! Our son says that once they're all there it is wall-to-wall elephant seals. We observed some displays of dominance behavior among the teen boys but that big bull just slept the entire time. No bellowing out of him.

It's hilarious to watch them try to move. They lug their big lumbering bodies a few feet and then give up from exhaustion. They need a few minutes to regain some energy. It kinda reminded me of us trying to climb the sand dunes on Monday.
