No-swimming advisory continues on Broward beaches
By Herald staff reports
browardnews@herald.com
Health Department officials this morning continued advising the public not to swim at beaches along most of the Broward County coast -- from Northeast 16th Street in Pompano Beach south to Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale.
Officials at the county Health Department stated that the ''cautionary advisory'' first issued Thursday is in effect until further notice, whenever testing of the water is completed with satisfactory results.
Tests performed yesterday will produce results that may change the advisory today, a health department official said.
''Certain bacteria could potentially create unhealthy recreational water conditions and may cause swimming-related gastroenteritis,'' according to the advisory.
The Health Department earlier advised people not to swim at Fort Lauderdale's beaches because of unsatisfactory water test results. Fort Lauderdale's lifeguards will remain on duty, officials said.
