Headed out on the Spectre Dive boat this past Saturday to dive Anacapa Island. We made three dives; Wizard Hat, Cathedral Cove and Portuguese Rock.

The diving was good, viz between 30'-40' with great surface conditions. Wizard Hat has the potential to be a super dive if you can hit it on a low surge day and be the first divers in the water so you get the best viz. The dive is shallow (30') and if you are the last to arrive the vizibility will have deteriorated from the other divers visiting the swim through underneath the hat's brim.

Cathedral Cove Reef was the highlight of the day, especially up high in the kelp where I found this school of Opaleye:

Got to give a shout out to the crew on the Spectre: The Captain gave incredibly detailed dive briefings, the crew all wore Spectre T-shirts so you could identify them, there were ample crew onboard for the max load of 42 divers and they all communicated using lapel mics connected to portable radios so they could manage logistics smoothly. Plus a simple BBQ lunch that tasted great. This level of play is not common in Socal...

Sunday on the Giant Stride was the so much fun: good conditions on the Olympic Wreck and very good conditions under the Ellen oil rig.

Nice photos! How were the water temperatures? Heading down this weekend to Catalina... debating whether to bring lightweight or midweight undergarments.

Probably around high 60's, like 68F. I did not have my regular computer so I was not taking temps.
