Can someone tell me how the Gimbals the first divers on the andrea doria died? was it on the wreck together?I know there ashes are there. Curious and cant find that info or anything by them anywhere. thanks. send to jmpasz@yahoo.com or jmpasz or irishpersonbored on yahoo messenger.ta.

Read "Deep Descent" by Kevin F. McMurray. I don't believe either one of them died diving the Doria.

no, the Gimbels ( I assume you mean Peter and Elga) did not die on the Doria. Elga was already a well-known documentary maker prior to marrying Peter, but I don't think she
was a diver (i could be wrong).

Anyways, Peter led four or five expeditions to the Doria, besides being the first diver
to dive it, just a day after the Doria sank, and both their ashes were placed on the
Doria after their deaths.

they did not die on the Doria, but rather, wanted to rest there due to the importance of the ship in their lives.

Deep Descent is a great book on the Doria, as R_Deluca said.
