breathing water, what's wrong??

All the above have happened to me. Diaphragms letting water in due to tears, debris, folds, etc.. If your mouthpiece is not torn (inspect by pulling on it a little and look for tears) it is the diaphragms letting water in. You could have a crack in your reg box, but unlikely. Easy fix on the diaphragms. Once I had a reg rebuilt before I started doing my own. It had no (ZERO) exhaust valve installed and I inhaled half the river when I jumped into the water. Before you turn on your valve on the tank with your reg installed try to breath. If you can get air you have a problem.

I had this and the DM pulled apart my reg and the diaphragm looked nasty. Kind of a slimy skudge (Is that a real word???) around the edge. We wiped it off and it is as good as new. I just gross out that I was breathing off of that. Yuck. But hey, it is an easy, free fix!
