Corundum (aluminum oxide), not carborundrum (silicone oxide). Significant difference.

Nevertheless I have never seen pure aluminium oxide colored as black.
(it is quite aside the discussion, but as far as I know carborundum is silicon carbide, not oxide)

Your English is a heck of a lot better than my Hungarian. :D I don't know that the Al3O2 is black, but so blue as to appear black. We're definitely outside of my expertise here but I've been told that chromium from the valve plating is the contaminant...
