Bush ok's Gulf of Mexico Drilling

well, President Bush has sgned into law a bill opening up 8.3 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas drilling

it's part of House Bill 6111

so ...

Florida does get a 125-mile buffer from its coastline:

i did some looking, but couldn't find any major oil spills from drilling platforms.

I had the experience of going out on one of Mexico's Platiformos (PEMEX)
I could see 6-8 ft cudas swimming below, we alway had fresh fish for dinners and lunch.

so... what are the chances of oil or some other crap leaking from these platforms and ruining the environment?

(as for the oil, it's barely enough to keep the US going for a couple of years, at best; the only people to benefit will be the oil companies... but i digress)

I know Cuba has some small drilling going on near its coast ... but that's about it
