"Padi style gear" ??

BTW, I don't know any "DIR" diver who has "analog" gauges EXCEPT for the "brass and glass SPG." All the other gauges I've seen on divers are electronic/digital of one sort or another.

Oddly, it seems that all of this assumes that you only have one type of gear or the other. Surely there will still be occasions when you take a trip to Cozumel and want your basic recreational gear. If you can afford the expense, why not have both?

My BP/W, long hose/bungeed backup, and primary light is my basic recreational gear.

The only change I make when I go on a tropical vacation is to use a lighter-weight backplate and a smaller can light ...

peter, my compass, my depth gauge are and my bottom timer are all analog.. *meaning not digital or computer...am i using the wrong terminology?

ww

Yes, peter, padi style. Take a look at a current padi ow book, and its pretty obvious that jacket bcs, consoles, computers, etc are favored.

And yes, dale, dir equipment. Its a lil different.

Sheesh, y'all act like you don't know what I'm talkin 'bout here!

I was in the exact same position as the op a few years ago, and the monetary loss stings quite a bit. I can empathize with the op. And like him, I wish I had made the right investment from the start.

:D I knew what you meant but didn't think that type of gear was specifically DIR. I dive a BP/W, longhose and bungied B/U too...

I'm going to redo my reg setup to something more DIR (ditch the console, long hoses, etc) before my trip to Nanaimo, BC in a few weeks.
