Lets be careful out there. So far there have been 4 confirmed fatalities already and the season is only a few days old! Here's a recent post by the USCG in response to the then 3 (and now 4) incidents. The Coast Guard wants you to Survive Your Dive! | Coast Guard News

HOLEE CRAP!!!!!!
You folks have nowhere near the amount of divers grabbing bugs as we do here in SoFla.
This amount of deaths seems off the chart to me.
WTH???

Chug
Treats them very gently.

The total is now 5 but one of them was a diver that had a medical issue before getting in the water. IMO there are several factors Chug- One is the water temps (despite being unusually warm this year) require thicker wetsuits and therefore more weight. That's harder to deal with, especially for a new diver, or one who has been out of the water for a while. Also, at least a couple of these were medical issues, probably heart attacks. Humping a steel tank (50#) and 20# of lead while wearing a 7 mil suit can put a strain on you. And finally, many divers just don't think to drop their weights when the have issues. IIRC Two of the divers had surfaced but dropped back down.

For those looking for a great meal on the weekend, join us on a 1-Day Lobster trip focused on the "big monsters" that inhabit the clear and still warm waters of the Channel Islands. This is the first single-day lobster trip of this season and we know that the bug for the "big bugs" is itching. Put your gear together and... let's hunt!

Season Ends...

We still have few weeks until March 18th, when the season closes again. And, anticipating the excitement of the last days, we already have few trips scheduled for the closure. We all know lobster fever is extremely contagious. For that reason, guarantee your spot as soon as possible as these trips sell fast! Put your gear together and... let's hunt!
