Dont tell me he's (we all know who) captaining one of Ray's boats....another reason not to dive with them....

As far as I know, not any more

I've already started hearing some divers I know whining that they only have about 40 tails in their freezer so far this season.

Geoff, maybe those morons need to read the law again... only this time with full comprehension! As you probably are aware, the limit is SEVEN IN POSSESSION (TOTAL), not seven per day. That includes the ones in their freezers.

And people wonder why our lobster population have relatively few large bugs these days compared to back in the 60s and 70s? All the bug divers and hoop netters leave are the small ones.

Dr Bill,

May be also Fish and Game can explain how they issue multi-day permits to boats so people can hunt their daily limit and come back with 7 per day. That by default would put them against the rules that F&G places...

Further to that, I would also like someone from F&G to explain the legality of new hoop nets that do not collapse completely and have a top (see here http://amzn.com/B004TLXU30 ). These to me are more efficient traps.

From the short experience I have had lobster hunting (last three years) I have found that us divers restricted by the rules of DCS and air tank capacities do not have all day to hunt for lobster when in fact hoop netters can do so while drinking beer at the surface. Somehow I rarely come back with a limit, yet I can bet that most hoop netters on boats come back with a full limit more often that us divers. Without pointing the finger, some of you may focus on another side of the problem which is the not necessarily divers. Last week I was diving Santa Cruz and the lobster traps were pretty full out there...

Back to the subject, this person discussed is a typical case of a poacher that would rob the ocean the same way he would rob a liquor store in his neighborhood. He is a thug and no part of any sport community hunting or other. Setting rules using him for guidance would be insane...This guy robs from hunters as much as from non-hunters some of whom I recognize on this board ;-)

I was unaware they did that. Certainly seems like a direction violation of the possession limit.

I deplore the many hoop nets that are placed (legally) along the perimeter of the Casino Point Dive Park which is an official marine protected area (MPA) but only extends to the dive park boundary. The result is a skewing of the lobster population at Casino Point towards the smaller, younger bugs that are less able to reproduce. Sure defeats the purpose of an MPA.

Problem is that the high bond was not due to the lobsters, it seems the last court appearance he failed to appear and the judicial system doesn't care for people giving them the finger. He will be around for his court appearance this time.

I hope they find a way to change his behavior but Fish and Game offenders are not reformed easily, similar to the drug trade.

This was discussed in the last thread. It's a limited-exception carve out to make multi-day fishing charters economically worthwhile. However, you can't legally take bugs again until you're below 7 in possession.
