I think you will find that after a couple of months of practice, you will not have a problem meeting the standard. 300 yards is only 6 laps or 12 lengths of a 25 yard pool. Even swimming a very slow breast stroke you should be able to do one lap in less than 2 minutes. If you can get a good freestyle going, you should be able to swim the distance pretty fast.

It's a good way to asses your fitness level. I figure that if I want to start Tech diving...then I have a goal for those swims.
So far I am under the time, have the gear and dives.

All I need is the time to take the training. Maybe at the end of the summer.

Until then...I just dive shallow : )

Just FYI, Swim from the first set of stairs at the end of spring run, to the mooring ball in the ear, swim back to the first set of stairs, then to the morring ball, then to the second set of stairs across from the eye (there are two sets of stairs there right? (closest to the eye and ear?).
That may be farther than you think. Your instructor was overheard saying that he'd recently learned that the course he used for the swimming trial was actually closer to 500 yards.
