We did St. Croix a few years ago. We too enjoy the more shallow, longer dives. We dove with both SCUBA and N2theBlue. They are both top notch operators.

The island isn't hard to navigate around. We stayed at the Divi which was away from just about everything. Rent a car and it really doesn't matter where you stay.

I'd suggest doing a pier dive with N2theBlue. After that initial guided dive, you may be comfortable doing self-guided shore dives. N2theBlue will set you up on shore diving the pier.

I also suggest doing some of the North diving with SCUBA. SCUBA will let you dive your tank.

While it is possible to shore dive off of Cane Bay, it looked like a long surface swim to me.

What did you think of the Divi? We went there one night for the casino and I think the restaurant and it seemed nice. What were the resort and the rooms like?

Be sure to check all of the threads regarding St. Croix - some are pretty recent - as there is good info.

I am partial to Fredericksted for diving because it is on the west side of island with the calmer water. I also stay on the west side because I have a connection there. Dove the north, Salt River National Park, in late June/early July a few years ago and the water was very choppy. Did 2 days of diving there and each day there were divers who didn't go out for the 2nd dive. Wouldn't recommend it to someone who easily gets seasick, but there are great features to see there.

The pier is a great dive and if you are good with air, it is a 65-75 minute dive. N2theBlue is less than a football field away and will rent tanks or give guided tour. Night dives at the pier are great.

We rent cars through Midwest Auto Rental. Phone: 877-772-0438. Think they have a website also. Can't remember the particulars, but we picked up car at the airport and drove it to an auto repair shop to pay for it. They didn't have jeeps a few years ago.

Another car rental is Centerline Auto Rental. Phone: 340-778-0450. They have cars and jeeps.

Enjoy your trip!

Well, we were in the timeshare units across the road from the main complex. It is a trek from the parking lot to your unit. We have stayed at many Divi properties. I thought the timeshare units were the worst of any Divi. The units were in bad repair. Wifi was nonexistent. I'd probably stay there again simply because there are not any other timeshare options in St. Croix and we really liked St. Croix. From my exterior view, the hotel area seemed renovated.

The beach area wasn't great. However, they have a ton of sea grass. This made for excellent snorkeling. We seen turtles and even a huge manta ray hanging out in the grass.

We ate in the restaurant once. It was good. The pizza place on the resort was wonderful. The staff at the Divi was great.
