Cool,
here's a little general insight:
- the basic training at Finnish Navy Diver School is adopted from US Navy BUD/s (by Ltn M. Aarnio BUD/s -87)
- Separate physical entry tests (lots of what's in BUD/s evolutions) + psychological evaluation
- Combat Divers (Commandos) are trained primarily for Draeger LAR V and Interspiro (AGA) MKII (shallow water clearence (under 15 meters, dive class I))
- Anti-mine Divers are trained for Interspiro (AGA) MKII and anti-magnetic AGA (ACSC, at least back in -95) system, dive clearance > 36 meters (dive class II)
- Finnish Navy Dive Class III (57 meters) is available only for active duty officers through instructor training
- Dry suit is basic equipment, no wet suits in use.
- Combat Diver's are arctic warfare specialists operating in arctic coastal areas, short summer, looong winter - extreme conditions.
- Advanced training for Combat Divers resembles more of US Army Combat Diver training rather than SEAL training.
- Combat Diver (Commando) training started again on -93 after being non-existent for about 20 years (politics :()
- Finnish Defense Forces operate outside borders only on UN mandate (like Somali pirate hunt... boooring)
