Coquina Coast Seawater
Desalination Project
Date: Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009
Time: Open House: 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Meeting: 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Place: Whitney Laboratory
at Marineland
9505 Ocean Shore Blvd.
St. Augustine, FL 32080
The community is invited to a public meeting to learn more about the
Coquina Coast Seawater Desalination Project. The purpose of the
project is to investigate the feasibility of a seawater desalination plant
to be located in St. Johns, Flagler or Volusia County. Alternative water
supplies, such as desalination, are needed to meet the drinking water
needs of the area in the 2015 to 2017 timeframe.
Project partners include the cities of Palm Coast, DeLand, Mount Dora,
Leesburg, Bunnell and Flagler Beach; the Water Authority of Volusia;
Flagler, Marion and St. Johns counties; Dunes Community Development
District and the St. Johns River Water Management District.
Over the past several months, project partners and consultants have
been evaluating whether a possible future desalination plant would
be better based on a ship offshore, on land, or a combination of both.
The goal is to determine the most feasible, cost-effective and environmentally
sound approach to desalination for the project participants.
Project team members will be at the meeting to provide information,
answer questions and ask for public input about the project. For more
information, call Jerry Salsano at (407) 884-8800 or Michelle Robinson
at (727) 580-9013.
Anyone requiring reasonable accommodations as provided for in the Americans With Disabilities Act
should contact Michelle Robinson at (727) 580-9013 at least two days prior to the public meeting.
