Aussies dislike being mistaken for Poms when abroad.
Canadians are rather indignant about being mistaken for Americans when abroad.
Americans encourage being mistaken for Canadians when abroad.
Brits can't possibly be mistaken for anyone else when abroad.

**********

Aussies believe you should look after your mates.
Brits believe you should look after those that belong to your club.
Americans believe people should look after themselves.
Canadians believe it's the governments job.

**********

Aussies are extremely patriotic about their beer.
Americans are extremly patriotic about their flag.
Canadians can't agree with the words to their anthem.
Brits don't sing the words to their anthem, they prefer a big brass band to perform it.

**********

Americans spend their lives watching TV.
Canadians don't, but only because they can't get more American channels.
Brits pax a tax just so they can watch five channels.
Aussies export their programs that no-one there watches, to Britain, where everyone loves them.

**********

Americans will talk endlessly about football, baseball and basketball.
Brits will talk endlessly about football, cricket and rugby.
Canadians will talk endlessly about hockey, hockey, hockey.
Aussies will talk endlessly about how they beat the Poms in every sport they play them at.

**********

Americans spell words differently but still call it English.
Brits pronounce words differently but still call it English.
Canadians spell like Brits but pronounce like American
Aussies add G'Day and Mate to everything they say.

We do not talk about baseball!
In Boston right now, no one is talking about anything except baseball.

I never heard of a Pom either.

Where did that name come from?

LOL! Good ones.

Pom is Aussie slang for a British person. I've heard it originates from the bright red colour British peoples skin turns after arriving in sunny Australia. I've also heard it originates from Prisioner's of Her Majesty, but I don't know if that's correct.

It's not 100% sure where it came from. The best guess is from the word 'pomegranates' reflecting how red new immigrants became after arrival. Originally in Melbourne there was a rhyming slang for new immigrants - they were called 'Jimmy Grants' (ImmiGrants), this changed over time to 'Pommy Grants' (pommy granates). It is actually supposed to only be in use from the beginning of the 20th century - therefore it's unlikely that it was ever from Prisoner's of her Majesty as it wasn't used in convict times as far as we know.
