Best thing is to assemble your gear at home and carry a functioning scuba unit on to the boat. Then you just have a small bag with your drysuit and peripherals which you can quickly toss under the bench (or have already in a milk crate or bucket). Drape your exposure gear over the top of your unit until you're ready to dive. Gets you on the boat fast and not taking up more than one space or making clutter right from the start.

Reactions: Tug
Do the East Coast boats not provide any kind of crate or tub to put your fins, etc. in? Our charters boats in the PNW all do. But come to think of it, I guess the Peace in SoCal doesn't . . .

Most of the boats here (Massachusetts) don't, so I have my tub or milk crate under the seat for them

For wet suit diving, I lay my bc on the floor opened up. Put fins, boots, regs inside. Put wet suit on top, close up bc and secure the whole thing with weight belt. Tuck mask in foot of fin and secure with spring strap. Pick up the whole thing by the weight belt and get on boat. No excess stuff to clutter boat. Carry camera in its bag.
