A recent fatal accident prompted a discussion in our local AZ scuba group about divers should always use a dive flag and boaters not knowing what the dive flag means. With that a small group of us have set out on a mission to improve the knowledge. We want to make the dive flag well known and its meaning to as many as possible. Even if they are not on or in the water. Many people know what the checker flag looks like and means. However not knowing will probably not change a life. Not knowing what the dive flag looks like and mean, could change many lives. We need the help of the dive community to spread the knowledge. During our quest, we have found we are not alone. DEMA and DAN working with The NSBC (National Safe Boating Council) have created a wonderful PSA.
What we need is folks to help spread the knowledge. At a minimum like our facebook page at Dive Flag Awareness | Facebook. We have stated commitments from PADI and Yamaha Waverunners and a few others, but fear without many likes on our page, those commitments might not get be realized.
You can find the PSA by DEMA on the page and please share this out as well.
Hoping that Scubaboard can give us a bit more exposure as well. We need all the help we can get.
Thanks for your time and support.
