I've had way too many areas even near civilization with no cell reception for me to trust that. I bought a PLB before I went to Coz in September. Hope never to need it, but it's a lot better safe than sorry.

Cell reception varies, cell locating varies, batteries die, phones get wet, etc. Carry that PLB in your car, hiking pack, wherever.
