Hello fellow divers, hello to the east of North America.

According to this article Flutwelle an Ostküste der USA: Meteo-Tsunami im Atlantik - SPIEGEL ONLINE (unfortunately I couldn´t find any english sources) there has been a socalled Meteo-Tsunami in the north Atlantic on June 13th. Ther article also says the Tsunami might have been caused by a various factors involving a storm moving east over the Atlantic ocean. Let´s leave the theories aside ... it also says divers have been pulled away from the shore while the water was moving back.

Any witnesses here?

No Tsunamagenic quakes at all anywhere in the world that would have this sort of reaction. Earthquakes that can trigger tsunamis, had not been registered - even translated it sounds like its written at the high school level. If the bouys go off that data is transmitted worldwide.

Meteo Tsunamis seem to be a not yet fully agreed on localised phenomenon. Im sitting on the fence on this one.

Here is a sited article on the phenomenon which appears to be topography and resonance related localised rather than a surprise event that can occur anywhere. Basically, given the right set of conditions which appear to be confined to BC, Abiki Bay in Japan, Longkau Harbour in China, Baeleric Islands/Russiga, a small area of the Adriatic. The common factor appears to be funnel shaped bays - heres the conclusion

physical difference between disastrous seismic tsunamis and
meteotsunamis. The former are normally generated by major earthquakes. Such earthquakes are relatively infrequent
events and this is the reason why major tsunamis are quite
rare. The topographic resonant effects can locally strongly
amplify arriving tsunami waves causing catastrophic effects
(like in Port Alberni in 1964); however, tsunami waves can
be energetic enough to create severe damage along the entire coast even without specific resonance (the 2004 Sumatra
tsunami is an obvious example, cf. Titov et al., 2005; Rabinovich et al., 2006). In contrast, strong atmospheric disturbances of various types (passing fronts, squalls, and trains
of atmospheric waves) are common. Nevertheless, strong effects (high-energetic ocean waves) occur only for very specific combinations of resonant effects. The rareness of such
combinations is the main reason why major meteotsunamis
are exceptional and observed only at a limited number of
sites in the World Ocean.
 
Guten tag Kokeldil, not a witness, but I did see articles and Facebook posting on this event. I was wondering if the divers in question would make their way to SB to provide a first hand report. See this article for local coverage and pictures of the inlet most mentioned, or google Tsunami New Jersey Tsunami-like wave in N.J. being investigated | NJ.com . Cause may be a derecho, a strong straighline thunderstorm event or a slumping out on the continental shelf, about 75 miles offshore. I've been watching the press to see if any follow up information is released.
